New partnership with Donuts welcomes new domain extensions and premium domain names

Thexyz has recently welcomed a partnership with the registry of the world’s largest portfolio of new top-level domains name market – Donuts. This has allowed us to improve our registry services and offer some trending new TLDs on the market such as .DEALS, .NINJA, and .COMPANY directly from the registry. This will allow us to offer great, long-term prices and run various attractive promo campaigns such as those found on our domain offers page.

What is the Donuts Registry?

The Donuts registry first appeared on the domain scene in 2010 with a purpose – to break the 25-year monopoly of .COMs. According to the co-founder of Donuts Inc. Daniel Schindler, .COM is a generic legacy TLD that wouldn’t have the same level of success if released today – due to the variety of more attractive and relevant TLDs available. This has lead to Donuts investing $213 million into the acquisition of the Rightside Group.

Today, Donuts is the global leader in providing relevant, high-quality, top-level domains that offer variety and choice to enable you to easily manage and amplify your digital identity. In November 2020, Donuts acquired Afilias, Inc., a leading TLD registry operator and provider.  

It keeps playing a key role in popularizing new TLDs and turning them into a desired choice among registrants worldwide. Thanks to investment from the private equity firm Abry partners, the Donuts registry manages a large portfolio of new, top-level domains including some of the most trendy nTLDs such as .GURU, .NEWS and .FAMILY.

Currently, 40 of the 100 most popular new TLDs, according to the official nTLD stats page, are Donuts TLDs. The Donuts Registry is also the second most popular registry with market share and now offers over 200 top level domains.

The #notcom revolution

Most people accept that .COM, .NET and a few other country-code TLDs are the only domain names that can be registered for a business. Well, there are now hundreds of new TLDs allowing the registrant to have a domain in a variety of endings. Freeing people from longer domain names, it may be possible to have have companyname.TLD. There is often a search engine ranking benefit to having a shorter domain. As there is more availability with shorter domains, there is also potential for excellent results in search.

Partnership benefits and premium domains

Thanks to our new partnership with Donuts, we’ll now be able to offer more domains at better prices. As mentioned earlier, the Donuts registry manages a large portfolio of hundreds of new TLDs. This means we’ll be able to add more new and attractive extensions to the list of Donuts TLDs already included in the domain portfolio.

The Donuts Registry also offers Premium Registry Domains in all their new domain name extensions. The concept of these “Premium” domains applies primarily to the field of new generic top-level domains (gTLDs).  Not every domain name is equal, these desirable domains are often single word domains. Some domain names have a much higher probability of being popular (or have a higher perceived market value). Similar to search engine keywords, these domains are often popular with domain investors and are available at high prices through premium registration compared to Donuts other domain names.

Some registries make all their Premium domains open to all, while others have eligibility requirements. These can range from a statement of motivation and the registrant’s “good faith” to a complete business plan. Thanks to a recent drop in price, these premium domains are now more affordable than ever.
