If you're noticing that too many legitimate emails are being flagged as spam, or you're receiving too much spam in your inbox, you can adjust the spam quarantine threshold to better suit your needs.
What Is the Quarantine Threshold?
The Quarantine Threshold sets the minimum score a message must receive to be classified as spam when the system is unsure. The score ranges from:
-
0.0
– Almost certainly not spam -
1.0
– Almost certainly spam
The lower the threshold, the less strict the spam filter is. The higher the threshold, the stricter the filter becomes.
Recommended Threshold Settings
Threshold | Filter Strictness | Best For |
---|---|---|
0.9 – 1.0 | Very strict | Blocks most spam; may block some legitimate emails. Good if you're receiving lots of spam. |
0.7 – 0.8 | Moderate | Recommended for most users. Filters obvious spam while minimizing false positives. |
0.5 – 0.6 | Light filtering | Allows more borderline messages through. Good if you're missing important messages. |
< 0.5 | Very light | Not recommended unless spam volume is extremely low. |
Recommended Setting for Most Users
We suggest starting with a threshold of 0.7
, which strikes a good balance between catching spam and delivering important messages.
Optional: Adjust "Beneficial to Train" Threshold
This setting helps the filter learn from borderline cases. We recommend setting it to around 0.2
for better accuracy over time.
Tips
-
Review your quarantine report regularly to catch any false positives.
-
Mark legitimate emails as "Not Spam" to help train the filter.
-
If you're still experiencing issues, adjust the threshold slightly and monitor the results.
